Sorry for the late post folks. The past few weeks have been a little chaotic, what with the Jewish High holidays and my near constant running around the country. This post may not be the longest one, but It will contain a lot of information.
Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah both occurred during the break in my posts, and both were entirely new experiences for me. Of course I have celebrated the high holidays with my family every year, but the Israeli way of celebrating is drastically different from the American one. Rosh Hashanah is the most similar, with the biggest difference being in the fact that nothing is open. Much like Christmas in the states everything is closed in Israel. This meant that my days were open, which meant they were spent on the beach. I did manage to make it to a tashlich service in Golda Meir Park, so that I could hear the shofar blow. Yom Kippur on the hand is taken to an incredible level. Much like Rosh Hashanah the city closes down, however unlike Rosh Hashanah it is not optional. The city is devoid of any form of motorized vehicles, allowing people to use the roads and highways with their own two feet. The examples below are of Rothschild and Allenby (where my apartment is located). They are normally extremely busy, with traffic at all times of the days, however on Yom Kippur they were empty (I may have run around like an idiot, enjoying not having to worry about getting hit by a car).
In other news I completed Ulpan and taken tours of Jaffa and the West bank (look for a longer post following this one about that particular tour and my thoughts on it).
Right now I am prepping for a trip up north to the Golan area for some hiking and rafting. After that I officially start my internship, which should provide for some unique experiences and ideas.
As always I will keep this blog updated with new information and details.
